Overview

GTS is currently seeking a talented Risk Desk Associate to join the risk team of our FX Market Making trading division. This role requires a strong interest in financial markets and the technology that supports it.  A scholastic background in computer science or related field with a proactive/curious mind that is interested in interacting with risk & financial markets in a highly technical and structured way is optimal for this opportunity.   A qualified candidate would have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. You will work directly with the business to support our trading teams to ensure all issues are resolved in a timely and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a risk & technical service provider and first responder to risk/technology events
  • Determine the urgency and severity of a risk or technology issue through strict accordance to procedures and existing knowledge in the Standard Operating Procedures
  • Based on the Risk and TechOps Desk determination, troubleshoot or escalate the issue to the correct department head or on call rep
  • Follow up for a post-mortem of problems and update the SOP with the assistance of development and systems who helped resolve the issue
  • Partial assistance with onboarding tasks
  • Partake in daily calls with development/systems to review outstanding issues of the last 24 hours
  • Provide risk and production support for the Algo development teams
  • Generate tickets on behalf of groups within the Jira system
  • Follow-up with tickets and trade groups after they are allocated by the relevant department heads
  • Maintain Risk and TechOps protocols in a centrally located place
  • Start/Stop/Monitor jobs
  • Execute orders or control algos
  • Being in charge of solving small problems (disconnection, bouncing jobs, reading FIX/binary messages) to explain problems or risk events
  • Investigate crashes/problems (reading logs, debugger to check which function had a problem, tcpdump, make core dumps available for the development team)
  • Following up on URGENT issues for trade groups
  • Answering data questions as needed

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of computer systems such as networking, operating systems, performance tuning and optimization
  • Experience with distributed systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work across multiple teams in highly collaborate, entrepreneurial environment
  • Experience working with multi-threaded applications
  • Understanding of Linux/ Bash
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, physics, statistics or relevant work experience
  • Development experience in the financial services sector
  • Exposure to futures and OTC FX
  • Knowledge of R, Python, Golang, Bash or relevant language

 

18 Month Milestones

  • Within the first 3-6 months: Master basic market structure and risk protocols
  • Within 6-9 months: Begin education of Linux-based trading and execution systems
  • Within 9-18 months: Begin larger programming projects involving distributed systems operations using Python and Bash scripting
  • After 18 months: Have full ownership of mission-critical risk and technical systems that enable GTS’s operation as an automated trading enterprise
